Dear Messy Friends

The year seems to be rushing past, with Easter now behind us, summer
plans are slowly coming together.

The world is going through a very loud phase it seems at the moment:
news and social media shouting out at us to be heard, when most of the
time they’re not really saying anything (useful) at all; elections all
over the world, with politicians trying to convince us they are the best
to lead us; wars, famine, injustice everywhere we look, and we feel
helpless; and work, school, and life just seem to keep us so busy we
have no time to stop. Sometimes it’s difficult to hear God’s voice
through it all. But often, when we stop, in the silence is where we can
hear it.

“Then the Lord said to Elijah, “Go. Stand in front of me on the
mountain. I will pass by you.” Then a very strong wind blew. It caused
the mountains to break apart. It broke apart large rocks in front of the
Lord. But the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind, there was an
earthquake. But the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the
earthquake, there was a fire. But the Lord was not in the fire. After
the fire, there was a quiet, gentle voice.”
(1 Kings 19: 11-12, International Children’s Bible)

This month we’re going to be exploring that still small voice through
Elijah’s story, trying to learn how to listen to it in the noise of the
world around us. We’ll be baking flat breads, painting with bubbles,
making a seismograph and finding out about the power of the wind. We’ll
then go into church for a short period of worship, where we’ll sing
about how God can do anything, before sharing a yummy lunch together.

We can’t wait to see you all!
